Another truck accident hits Abuja

Barely 24 hours after a truck accident claimed 10 lives along the AYA-Karu Expressway in Abuja, another truck accident happened in the same area, The Guardian reports.
However, no life was lost in the latest incident.
Head of Public Affairs, FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Nkechi Isa, confirmed this in a statement on Thursday.
While confirming that the incident occurred under Karu Bridge along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway, the spokesperson explained that the accident occurred when a truck laden with fertiliser ran into a Hijet and a dump truck, also known as a tipper.
She said the Acting Director-General of FEMD, Abdulrahman Mohammed, advised motorists to drive with caution as the Federal Road Safety Corps is taking steps to tow away the affected vehicles to avoid traffic buildup.
“Engr. Abdulrahman is calling on drivers to obey traffic regulations in order to drive to stay alive,” the statement read.
This comes as the National Blood Service Agency has called on Nigerians, particularly residents of the Federal Capital Territory, to donate blood to support victims of Wednesday’s tanker explosion.

The NBSA, in a statement on Thursday signed by its Director-General, Prof. Saleh Yuguda, said the incident resulted in multiple casualties, many of whom required immediate blood transfusions.
Prof. Yuguda stated that hospitals and emergency response teams are working tirelessly to save lives, but an adequate blood supply is crucial to their efforts.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the incident involved a Compressed Natural Gas truck that lost control and crashed into another truck along the AYA-Karu Expressway on Wednesday at about 7 p.m.
The agency noted that the injured victims were taken to the National Hospital, State House Clinic, Karu General Hospital, and Customs Clinic, Karu, for medical attention.
In the statement, the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) urged “all eligible donors to visit designated blood donation centres and hospitals across the FCT to make voluntary blood donations. Your generosity can make the difference between life and death for those in critical condition.
“For further inquiries and directions to the nearest donation centres, please contact the National Blood Service Agency at 39 Abidjan Street, Zone Wuse, or call 07088370905. Together, we can save lives.”
