APC group drags Governor Yusuf to UN over alleged harassment of Judges, destruction of properties
The Kano branch of the All Progressives Congress Youth Business Community (APC-YBCK) has dragged Governor Abba Yusuf to the United Nations for allegedly threatening the judiciary.
Led by Alhaji Umar Ladiyo, the group while submitting a petition against Governor Abba Yusuf at the UN house in Abuja called on the international community to sanction Kano state government and its supporters over the committal of the alleged act.
The group called on the United Nations to allow Nigerian judiciary to decide freely on cases before it, warning against unnecessary intervention.
The group claimed that since assumption of office by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) led administration in Kano state, the business community have faced reverses in their fortunes.
Ladiyo who submitted the petition titled: “Rule of law shall prevail” explained that they were at the UN House to register their dissatisfaction on the demolition of properties worth billions of Naira in breach of due process by the NNPP-led Kano state government.
The group which brandished placards with inscriptions to buttress their claims blamed the massive destruction of commercial assets in the state on the NNPP which has grossly affected business activities and livelihood in the state.
Urging the UN to call the Kano State Government to order to avoid chaos and disorder in the state, the group expressed its willingness to accept whatever the outcome of the Supreme Court verdict on the continuous stay of Governor Yusuf in office.
They thereby appealed to the NNPP government in Kano state to exhibit same sportsmanship as the state interest should be considered above other interest.
“We are also here to appeal to the UN not to allow the NNPP to drag it into mud. We are in the know that Governor Abba Yusuf and the NNPP’s sympathisers have been running from pillar to post to pressurise the international community to intervene in the democratic process in Nigeria.
“We are here to say let the rule of law prevail. Allow the court to exercise their rights.
“We are here to tell the UN that they should not be carried away by the activities of the NNPP government in Kano, Nigeria is a sovereign Nation with laws and regulations. It has Constitution and electoral laws.
“So every country is bound by its laws and United Nations as a defender and promoter of democracy in the world, we are thinking UN should allow Nigerian judiciary to do its work accordingly.
“So we are appealing to the UN not to be carried away. They should not listen to those unwarranted remarks from other political parties. We are asking the United Nations to put eye in this process because other political parties are preaching violence.
“In Kano specifically, they are recruiting thugs to cause chaos if they don’t get what they want. So we are asking the United Nations to put eye on that because we are true believers of democracy and we have confidence in the Court of law.”
