APC is a divided party, says Frank
’We’ve no factions, says leadership
There may be divisions within the ranks of the All progressive Congress (APC) if the assertions of the deputy publicity secretary of the party, Mr Timi Frank are anything to go by.
Yesterday, Frank told reporters that the APC is no longer a united and virile party as was thought by many Nigerians and that many chieftains of the party are already aggrieved.
But the leadership of the APC has dismissed the claim by Frank that all is not well with the party. In a statement signed by the national secretary of the party, Malam Mai Mala Buni described Frank’s claim as bogus and misleading.
Citing the way names of nominees into various positions from Bayelsa state were being picked, he said: “ Let me take you back to the issue of acting or not acting, I’m still insisting and making it clear that I’m the acting publicity secretary of APC.
Those persons in the party that do not want me to speak, Nigerians will start asking them questions anytime soon but I’m on top of my game and I can tell you it’s not something I have to beg or lobby anybody.
“ In a short time, this play out. I spoke in my state Bayelsa, people ignored me; I am speaking again and it would happen soon at the national level that these things we are sweeping or hiding have started already.
“If anybody should tell you there’s no division even at the national level, they’re telling lies.
The issue of the senate presidency is still lingering, nobody is saying anything at the national level but i tell you clearly that with the body language of our party as at today, if we are not careful we are going to lose our popularity.
We have too many divisions right now within the party so I wont be scared to speak. “
But according to Bunu: “The APC National leadership remains united and solidly committed to the task of bringing cohesion to the party at all levels. Recently, the APC held its National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings were positive and far-reaching decisions were collectively taken by the party’s leadership to drive the party forward.
“The public is advised not to misinterpret or confuse Comrade Timi Frank’s personal opinions to be the official position of the party or the true reflection of what is happening inside the party.
For the umpteenth time, only the APC National Chairman and the National Secretary are authorised to officially speak for the party”, Bunu said.
