APC reacts to PDP allegations over Saraki, Ekweremadu

Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress has reacted to the latest allegations of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the Senate President Bukola Saraki and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.

PDP on Sunday alleged that there was a fresh plot by APC and “the cabal in the Buhari Presidency to use compromised security agencies and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to invite, arrest and detain Senate President Bukola Saraki and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.”

Yekini Nabena, APC Acting National Publicity Secretary, in a statement on Monday, said the accusations were “baseless”.

“The President Muhammadu Buhari administration has repeatedly demonstrated its strict adherence to the rule of law, therefore the alleged plan to arrest or harass the mentioned leaders is hogwash and baseless,” Nabena said.

“Clear conscience fears no accusation. Why are PDP leaders afraid of arrest if their conscience is clear? All law-abiding citizens or resident of the country have nothing to fear about an arrest.”

Nabena further noted that nobody will “escape the full wrath of the law if he or she runs fowl of our laws no matter the position” such persons hold.

Saraki, who only defeated from the ruling party late July, has come under different summons, requesting for his resignation as the President of Nigeria senate.

On Friday, APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiohmole urged APC senators to explore legal means for the Senate President’s impeachment.

Oshiohmole, who had initially said it was expected that the Senate President would resign his position after defecting, also accused Saraki of anti-party activities while in the ruling party.
