APC-USA mourns Akeredolu, as Oluwajana pleads with Aiyedatiwa to unite party
The All Progressives Congress United States of America (APC-USA) chapter, yesterday, mourned the demise of former governor of Ondo State, Ogeni Rotimi Akeredolu, whom it described as a Nigerian, courageous politician and someone that showered unreservedly determination to ensure security of Nigerians especially Yoruba land in the face of terrorism and other criminal vices.
The chapter in a statement jointly authorised by the Chairman, Professor Adesegun Labinjo and National Secretary, Feyi Tijani, expressed condolence to members of Ondo APC, Akeredolu’s family, especially the wife, Betty, Governor Luck Aiyedatiwa, who succeeded the deceased and entire members of APC including President Bola Tinubu.
The chapter however called on the new governor and members of Ondo State chapter of APC to quickly put their house in order and get set for the task ahead bearing in mind that the best honour they can give the late governor is to ensure that APC retain Ondo as they will be going into the 2024 gubernatorial election year in next couples of hours.
APC-USA said, “It is obvious that opposition parties in Ondo would want to take advantage of the present situation in the ruling party come 2024 but the onus us APC to put our house together, unite our front and go into the election stronger than how we did in 2016 and 2020, when Akeredolu/APC won.”
MEANWHILE, a former national vice chairman of APC Southwest, Bankole Oluwajana, said, the major task ahead of the new governor is to rebuild Ondo APC, reunite the party members and also initiate policies that would repose the confidence of the electorate in the ruling party.
He said, “I am happy that Governor Aiyedatiwa is part of the inner caucus team that ensured Akeredolu’s victory in 2016. He understands how the party was reunited then to claim victory he can revert to that strategy and build on it. What is crucial now is for APC to retain the state next year. That’s the best legacy and honour we can give the late governor.”
Oluwajana also admonished members of Ondo APC and all admirers of the party that the best way to remember Akeredolu, especially now that election is approaching is to work as a team. “The demise of Akeredolu must not divide us but rather make APC stronger and successful.”
