APGA chieftain joins race for late Ubah’s seat in Senate

Patrick Ubajaka, an aspirant under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has declared his intention to contest for the Anambra South Senatorial District seat, a position left vacant by the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

The seat became vacant after the passing of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in July, with other aspirants from the region vying for the position following his burial in November.

In a press briefing held in Awka on Thursday, Ubajaka stated that his decision to run for the Senate is both a divine calling and a well-informed choice to serve the people. He highlighted that he has been with APGA since its inception and emphasized his deep connection to the district.

Ubajaka revealed that he is a kinsman of the late Senator Ubah, arguing that only a close relative should be allowed to complete the late Senator’s remaining term in the Senate.

He outlined his seven-point agenda for the Anambra South Senatorial District, which spans 1,320 km of the total 4,416 square kilometers of Anambra State. The district includes seven local government areas: Aguata, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Orumba North, and Orumba South.

“The senatorial district is made up of seven local government areas such as Aguata, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Orumba North, and Orumba South. I know the terrain very well,” Ubajaka explained. “Arguably, it is the zone with the largest concentration of renowned entrepreneurs, astute politicians, reputable traditional leaders, and scholars in comparison to other zones of the state. Thus, the task of representing such a zone in the Senate is not an ‘all comers job.’

“It calls for a relational personality and a team player, and that is my basic strength demonstrated over decades as a private entrepreneur as well as a former chief servant in public office.”

He reiterated his commitment to quality representation through impactful bills and promised to be a strong voice in the Senate, drawing on his successful track record in executing European Union projects across the country.

Ubajaka also stressed his close ties to Ubah, noting that both hail from the Otolo community in Nnewi North Local Government Area (LGA), and believes that, by providence, he is best suited to complete the late Senator’s tenure. He also reaffirmed his qualifications for the position.

“I am eminently qualified for this position by whatever standard, but what I am saying is that the people of Nnewi North should be allowed to complete the tenure of their brother, and if you come to Nnewi, I am the closest to him.

“I am a founding member of the state-ruling APGA, and I am contesting the by-election to fill the senatorial position left vacant by Ubah under the APGA platform. I am contesting to complete the good work he had started before he passed away. If elected, I will ensure that his hard-earned legacies are sustained.”

He also aligned his vision with that of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, noting that Soludo’s efforts to strengthen APGA’s progressive ideals mirror his own political philosophy.

Ubajaka appealed to the APGA leadership to grant him the party’s ticket, assuring the people that his legislative agenda will support Governor Soludo’s vision of a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Anambra.
