Appeal Court to hear Saraki May 31
The Appellate Court has fixed May 31,2016 for hearing in the appeal filed by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki challenging the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) to try him on the alleged false assets declaration.
Saraki in the appeal was particularly challenging the ruling of the tribunal on March 24, which dismissed his application questioning the jurisdiction of the tribunal to hear the charges brought against him by the federal government .
Also yesterday , the Federal Government filed a cross-appeal against the March 24 ruling of the CCT.
Justice Abdul Aboki, who led a five-man panel of the appellate court fixed the May 31 date following a request by Saraki’s counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), for a 14-day adjournment.
Agabi had told the court that he needed time to study the response filed on behalf of the respondent, which was the Federal Government.
His argument hinted on the fact that he had just been served with the final reply by the Federal Government on the cross-appeal and that he would require time to look at it.
