Aregbesola in Germany to boost agriculture in Osun
Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola is leading a delegation from the state to Germany in search of new insights on modern agriculture to further realise the dream of making Osun the food basket of the Southwest with aid of empowering and improving the quality of life for residents.
At Lindau in the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld, Germany, Aregbesola made enquiries on modern agriculture in search of new insights from German farmers, such as Arnold de Vries, who he visited on his sheep farm.
Arnold de Vries had taken in two interns from the state for training on his farm in the summer of last year.Over 40 Nigerians from Osun have benefitted from the “Support for Capacity Building in Food Production” project launched in 2012 between it and the German state of Saxony-Anhalt to undergo internships in modern agricultural enterprises in Saxony-Anhalt.
Aregbesola said: “We have to feed our population somehow and effective agriculture, as it is done here in Germany, can help us.” The trip is also intended to thank the farmers who took interns in for hands-on training.
The administration has invested heavily in laying the foundations for modern agriculture in the state, while Aregbesola recently ordered the planting of five million plantain suckers as a means of providing food for the residents.

A partnership that works. The world is now a small village of several partners and Aregbesola recognises this much obviously. It is only in partnership that growth occurs. The German agricultural companies have been in a partnership for a while now that has resulted in the training of hundreds of Osun youths in top class agricultural techniques. I am very sure the trip is all about keeping this opportunity open for Osun youths, especially the unemployed. Impressive.
We will review and take appropriate action.
