The Nigerian Army has detained former commander of the 3 Brigade in Kano, M.A. Sadiq, over allegations of theft and mismanagement of palliatives. He allegedly diverted palliative rice from the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) meant for soldiers under his command.

Sadiq is also accused of stealing military equipment, including a MIKANO heavy-duty generator, from the Military Training Camp in Falgore, Kano State, which was reportedly sold to scrap metal dealers. He has since been relieved of his duties and replaced by A.M. Tukur, the former registrar of Nigerian Defence Academy.

Director of Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed the development in a statement, yesterday. He added that investigations were ongoing, adding that appropriate administrative actions would be taken in due course.

“The Nigerian Army has been inundated with media reports concerning the former Commander of the 3 Brigade, Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq, who is currently under military investigation for administrative discrepancies during his tenure,” Nwachukwu said.

BESIDES, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the payment of N10 million each to families of the police officers, who died in a motor accident in Kano State.

Five cops lost their lives, while 11 others were injured in the crash, which occurred on the Zaria-Kano expressway, as they were returning from election duties in Edo State on September 24.

A statement yesterday by the force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said eight of the injured officers had been discharged, while three remain in hospital. He stated that Egbetokun had approved the immediate payment of N10 million each to families of the deceased, N2 million each to those still in hospital, and N500,000 to those discharged.
