Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative (ASR Africa) has donated 25 units of utility vehicles worth N500 million to National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Presenting the vehicles in Abuja, yesterday, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, ASR Africa, Ubon Udoh, said the donation was part of ASR’s Corporate Social Responsibility, under its 2023 Security Sector Support Grant.

He said: “ASR Africa has security sector support finance, where we provide support to the armed forces and other security agencies in the country.

“The grant is a key component of our initiative because we know and understand that we cannot achieve development without an environment that is safe and secure. This is the reason we focus a lot of our energy at ensuring that we provide support to security agencies.”

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) said the vehicles would be put to efficient use in areas of operations in need of utility vehicles.

He said the support will further enable the agency to carry out its mandate of eliminating illicit drugs and drug trafficking in the country.

According to him, “this is a task we cannot do alone. The entire society has to put its hands together to achieve this mandate, especially considering the millions of Nigerians that are daily being destroyed through drug use.”

“Boko Haram insurgents, bandits and terrorists all rely on drugs because that is what propels them. This will be a major boost to our operations in all spheres, as the vehicles are going to be dispersed throughout the country. We are not going to keep them in Abuja.”
