Atiku Abubakar urges commitment to family
• Ahmed preaches peace
As Muslims begin their holy month of Ramadan, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has urged all Islamic faithful to observe the period with soul-searching and commitment to family values.
In a goodwill message to Muslims, he said the occasion should be a unique opportunity for them to demonstrate greater self-discipline and compassion for the weak, poor and the suffering.
He also urged them to pray for Nigeria and its leaders at all levels to overcome the challenges confronting the country.
The former vice president said the 30 days period should be a reminder to Muslims to come to terms with what it means to go without eating, from morning to evening, thereby appreciating the conditions of millions of ordinary Nigerians who go without eating daily.
According to him, Muslims should use the occasion to increase their love and compassion for the less fortunate members of the society, adding the spirit of compassion should be taken beyond Ramadan by making it a permanent feature of our everyday life.
He urged them to take tolerance, love and peaceful coexistence to higher and more enduring levels.
Atiku, who is also the Turaki Adamawa, says “the best public relations for our religions is our conduct towards others in terms of love and tolerance.
“We must be good ambassadors of our faith, because our humble Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) himself attracted adherents to Islam through personal examples of love, tolerance and justice. The best service we can to do Islam is to live by its teachings,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, has urged Muslim to use this year’s season to intercede for speedy national economic recovery and peace across the country.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba in Ilorin, Ahmed preached rededication to the service of God and display of abundant love to all, irrespective of religious differences.
