AUST partner RescueTap to lead campus safety innovation in Africa

The African University of Science and Technology (AUST) said it has integrated RescueTap’s smart emergency response system into its campus ecosystem.

The landmark partnership was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between both organisations in Abuja. This collaboration aims to embed a culture of proactive safety across the AUST community by making help available at the tap of a button.

Speaking at the event, Oyewole Joledo, Founder of RescueTap, described the partnership as a significant milestone in the journey toward safer learning environments in Africa.

“This partnership represents more than technology; it represents hope. It’s about building a safety-first culture where no one is left vulnerable — not in class, not on the road, not ever,” he stated.

With the agreement, AUST students and staff will benefit from a suite of innovative safety tools, including verified ride scanning, real-time location sharing, one-tap emergency alerts to trusted contacts, and the onboarding of campus transportation operators to improve mobility safety.

The President of AUST, who expressed deep enthusiasm for the partnership, called it a game-changer for the continent.

“These are the kind of transformational solutions Africa needs; bold, necessary, and deeply impactful,” he remarked during the official signing.

Pamela Williams, Head of Marketing and Public Relations at RescueTap, emphasized that the solution promises to provide parents and guardians with security and safety in Nigeria and beyond. “With the current state of insecurity in Nigeria, this is one solution all universities public and private must be encouraged to adopt and deploy” said Pamela.

“We are not just launching an app, we are launching a movement. AUST is leading the charge,” she said.

Implementation at AUST is expected to begin immediately, with campus-wide onboarding, awareness campaigns, and full tech deployment in phases.

RescueTap has also announced plans to extend its services to several tertiary institutions across Nigeria and the continent, further cementing its vision of making safety accessible to all.

This pioneering partnership sets a precedent for other institutions and signals a new era of safety-focused innovation in African higher education.
