Eyimofe

After an extensive tour of the global film festival circuit and successful premiere last Sunday at the EbonyLife Place, Victoria Island, Lagos, Eyimofe (This is My Desire), a movie by GDN Studios, a subsidiary of The Guardian Group, is now in the cinema.

The movie, which has been commended by international audiences, festival directors, critics and industry media as an outstanding effort by Arie and Chuko Esiri, brothers and co-directors of their first feature film, began its run on the big screens yesterday.

The cinemas now showing the movie include Filmhouse Cinemas, Surulere (10:00, 12:10, 14:30 and 19:10); Filmworld Cinemas, Ikotun (11:05, 13:05); Silverbird Cinemas, Ikeja (13:00 and 19:00) and Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island (16:00); Marturion Cinemas, Igando (19:50); Genesis Cinemas (18:05) and Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX, Lekki (10:00, 16:50).

The feature flick takes an unflinching look at the pressures of everyday life in Nigeria, the desperate measures people take to survive and unrelenting desire to escape to a better life abroad by whatever means.

It traces the parallel lives of Mofe, a stoic electrician and part-time security guard, and Rosa, a struggling hairdresser, both trying to navigate illegal ways of fleeing the country.

According to the Executive Producer, Mr. Toke Alex Ibru, the film has exceeded expectations, adding: “We’ve been encouraged by the tremendous reception the film has received in London, Berlin, São Paolo (Brazil), Los Angeles and other cities.

“It’s really exciting to bring Eyimofe home to Nigeria and see how audiences react to seeing our lives portrayed on screen in such a realistic way.”
