Ayade gets ultimatum to conduct council polls in Cross River

Five non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have given Governor Ben Ayade 14 days to conduct local council elections in Cross River or risk street protests.

Namely Cross River State for Good Governance, (CRSFGG); Cross River Accountability Forum (CRAF); Cross River Society Network (CRSN); Cross River Coalition For Justice (CRCFJ); and Arise for Local Government Autonomy (AFLGA), the bodies issued the threat yesterday in Calabar.

Speaking on behalf of the groups, AFLGA Coordinator, Emmanuel Agbor, accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration in the state of disappointing the people by allegedly refusing to hold the polls since taking power in 2015.

He said: “If in the next few months, the PDP government refuses to democratise the grassroots administration, we shall employ all legal means to get the right things done.”
