Olanipekun, Dabiri-Erewa, others to get honorary degrees
Founder of Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Afe Babalola, has said that despite his immeasurable contributions to the country’s development, the Ado-Ijan-Ikare Road, which serves as the major access route to his university, remains in a deplorable condition.
Babalola spoke yesterday, in Ado-Ekiti, through the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, during a media briefing to herald the 16th anniversary and the 13th convocation ceremony of the institution.
He once again appealed that the road be urgently rehabilitated, reconstructed, and fixed, adding that the road should be treated as a top priority, considering that ABUAD hosts students from all 36 states.
Meanwhile, the ABUAD management has planned to confer honorary degrees on the 20th President of the NBA, 50th Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Wole Olanipekun; Chairman/CEO of Nigeria in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa and a business mogul, Dr Rosemary Osula Mku-Atu.
Olarinde said honorary degrees anywhere in the world are awarded on a highly sensitive basis to persons of proven integrity and character who have made an exceptional lifetime contribution to the society.
The VC, however, disclosed that a total of 229 students made 1st Class honors, adding that a total of 15,115 students have graduated from the university since its inception.
