Extols Sanwo-Olu’s Commitment to Development
The lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Bonu Solomon Saanu, has hailed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to ensuring that no part of Lagos State is left behind in the drive for infrastructure development.
Speaking at the official commissioning of the Badagry West Electrification Project held at the Kweme Descendants Union, Saanu described the initiative as a landmark achievement for communities in the area.
The project marked the completion of a major technical undertaking, including the electrification of three High Capacity (HC) Tower Crossings, the rehabilitation of 33KV distribution lines along the Gaji–Seme and Owode–Apa corridors, and the successful connection of 51 transformer substations.
Representing Governor Sanwo-Olu at the event, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat said the project was a deliberate intervention to address long-standing electricity deficits in the area. He added that the initiative aligns with the state’s THEMES+ Development Agenda, which prioritises resilient infrastructure and economic growth.
Hamzat noted that Lagos is positioning itself to regulate and expand electricity supply more effectively, referencing the newly inaugurated Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
“These projects will significantly strengthen power distribution, enabling thousands of homes and businesses to benefit from a more stable electricity supply,” he said.
In his remarks, Saanu expressed gratitude on behalf of his constituents, noting that the restoration of electricity would revitalise economic and social activities in the border communities.
He also appreciated the deputy governor for a recent visit to his family home, describing it as a gesture that boosted his legislative aspirations.
While celebrating the electrification milestone, the lawmaker highlighted the need for the rehabilitation of the Gbaji–Apa–Owode Road, describing it as the next critical project for the area.
“Next in line for us is the Gbaji–Apa–Owode Road,” Saanu said. “I will use my legislative influence to push for its reconstruction.”
Responding to the request, Hamzat assured residents that the Lagos State Government is ready to collaborate with the Federal Government to accelerate the rehabilitation of the road, which remains a key route for trade and movement in the Badagry West axis.
The event attracted a large turnout of dignitaries and residents, underscoring the significance of the project to the people.
For residents of the Gbaji–Seme and Owode–Apa corridors, the activation of the transformers represents more than electricity supply; it symbolises renewed hope for improved productivity and a better quality of life.
