Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has approved six months maternity leave for Niger State Civil servants.
The governor gave the approval during the State Executive Council meeting, held at the Council Chamber, Government House, Minna, on Monday.
Bago’s spokesman, Bologi Ibrahim, in a statement, noted that the six-month maternity leave is aimed at affording women ample time to take good care of themselves and their newborns, and help them become more productive when they resume.
The governor had directed the Head of Service, Abubakar Sadiq Idris, to work out modalities for the proper implementation of the policy.
“The policy was approved by the Governor as part of efforts aimed at protecting maternal and child health in line with international best practices,” Ibrahim said.
