Armed bandits have kidnapped five senior All Progressives Congress (APC) officials in Zamfara while they were travelling to the Marafa area of the state.

The victims, all from the Kaura Namoda local government area, were reportedly on their way to the residence of Senator Abdulaziz Yari, who represents Zamfara West in the Red Chamber, when their convoy was ambushed. Among those abducted were Yahaya Sani Dogon Kade, chairman of Dan Isah ward, and Bello Dealer, chairman of Sakajiki ward, according to the Cable.

Zamfara has been a major hotspot for banditry and kidnappings in Nigeria’s northwest. On February 24, gunmen attacked communities in Gusau and Bukuyyum local government areas, killing two people and abducting several others. Separate incidents saw six women kidnapped in Shemori village, while a mother and her one-year-old son were taken in Mada town.
