Barau unveils ₦200m cash support for 10,000 vulnerable residents in Kano

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has rolled out a direct cash intervention programme that will put ₦20,000 each in the hands of no fewer than 10,000 vulnerable residents of Kano State.

The initiative, championed through the Barau I Jibrin Foundation (BIJF), is aimed at cushioning economic hardship and empowering women, youths, and families across the 44 local govrnment areas of the state.

According to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, distribution forms will be shared beginning Thursday, 9 October 2025, to kickstart the selection process.

Out of the 10,000 beneficiaries, 6,500 will come from Kano North Senatorial District—500 from each of its 13 LGAs—while 112 beneficiaries will be picked from every LGA in Kano Central and Kano South.

Barau, who has over the years funded scholarships, healthcare projects, agricultural support, and transport initiatives through his foundation, said this intervention is a continuation of his efforts to touch lives directly.

“This is about impact where it matters most—at the household level. We are committed to empowering people, especially women and youth, to strengthen families and foster inclusive growth,” the statement quoted him as saying.

The Kano-born lawmaker noted that, beyond immediate relief, the cash support would help beneficiaries start small ventures, settle pressing needs, and improve their livelihoods in the face of current economic realities.
