Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has said he is a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who would follow the party’s decision, whether to allow a consensus gubernatorial candidate or head to the primary election.
Tuggar spoke yesterday in Bauchi, interacting with the media about 24 hours after officially declaring his intention to run for the governorship seat.
When asked for his perspective on the possibility that his party might push for a consensus arrangement or head to a direct primary, he affirmed his loyalty to the party.
While responding, Tuggar said: “Regarding the issue of consensus or primary election, I am a party man. I have always been so. There is no way I participated in party primaries or vying for a position or party ticket, and I ended up going to court or working against the final outcome.”
He pointed out that the former chairmen of the APC, ANPP and CPC who were sitting with him could attest to his loyalty to any party he had joined.
Tuggar, who resigned his position in March to contest the gubernatorial election, said his major focus would be to revolutionise the state’s agro-businesses and industrialise the sector’s components.
IN Adamawa, the ruling APC has been enjoined to conduct a credible and transparent governorship primary to ensure that only a candidate who would carry every citizen along is elected to fly the party’s flag in next year’s general elections.
Abdulrazak Namdas, who declared his intention to contest the governorship of the state, has been joined in the race by two other contenders, Mr Felix Tangwami and Ahmed Tijjani Galadima, believed to be preferred aspirants of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, respectively.
He explained that he was motivated by the governor’s inclusive leadership style, adding that he was also encouraged by his promise to hand over power to a grassroots politician, because he believed the governor was the best among all aspirants.
While noting that a free and fair primary would help APC enter the main election as a united family, Namdas pledged that, if elected as governor, rural development, the provision of qualitative education, and health care would be the priority programmes of his administration.
Speaking with journalists in Yola, Namdas called on all his supporters to campaign and support Governor Fintiri as he finishes strong in running a free and fair election in Adamawa State.
