DESPITE the criticisms that trailed the cancellation of the results

from Souther Ijaw Local Council during the Bayelsa State Governorship election, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Yakubu Mahmud at a stake holders meeting held in Abuja on Thursday said the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Baritor Kpagih acted with the approval of his superiors and will still remain in charge of the re-run billed for January 9, 2016.

Mahmud told the stake holders that the state REC , acted within the purview of his position and that he was actually acting on the directives of the Commission’s Situation Room, when he announced the cancellation of the Southern Ijaw Council poll.

Aside this, all the 21 parties that participated in the last election have agreed to take part in the re-run election with all conditions laid down  by INEC.
