The Benin monarch Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku-Akpolokpolo HRM Oba Ewuare II has said the Benin traditional palace has concluded arrangement to host a security summit in the state to address issues of crime and criminality.

The submit, according the monarch, became imperative to develop a workable template that would tackle the menace of dreaded inhuman activities of suspected cattle herdsmen, kidnapping, armed robbery including other social crime and criminalities that has bedevilled the state in recent times.

Speaking during a visit by the state’s new commissioner of police, Jonhson Babatunde Kokumo, in his palace in Benin City, Oba Ewuare said the proposed submit was a follow up of the earlier summit held over a year ago to consolidate on progress made and address the grey areas in the security blue print earlier developed to effectively curb the current wave of crimes in the state.

The Benin Monarch added that the royal palace would embrace the setting up the security submit team comprising the police and palace Chiefs to check the indiscriminate intimidation and arrest of innocent citizens of the kingdom by some unscrupulous police officers.

The monarch frown at the exploitative and high level of impunity of police in arresting innocent citizens in the kingdom over communal and land issues noting that this attitude by police has compound and aggravated more problems in many communities.

The monarch who expressed confidence in the CP’s deployment lto the state, charged the new police boss to double his effort in ridding of the state all forms of crimes, assuring that palace would do its best to give the needed support for effective policing in the state.

In his remark, Kokumo informed the monarch that he was at the palace to seek his prayers and blessings ahead of the task of providing security in the state.

Kokumo pledged his readiness to combat crime, reduce corruption among officers and men of the force to the barest minimum in the state.
