Benue denies commissioning Fulani security outfit
Benue State government has denied claims that it commissioned a private security outfit owned by a former Boko Haram kingpin, Alhaji Aliu Teshaku.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Hyacinth Alia said he was not aware of the existence of such a security outfit.
On Tuesday, an online news outlet had published a story alleging that the Benue State governor had commissioned a security outfit, Al-Teshaku Global Security Ltd, established by Alhaji Teshaku.
Responding to the news item, which alleged that the Deputy governor’s Protocol Officer, Gabriel Igoche, represented the state government at the event, Kula asked: “Where is it known that a sitting Governor delegates his deputy to represent him at a function and the deputy in turn, sends his ‘protocol officer’ to represent him?
“Governor Hyacinth Alia is desirous to see Internal Displaced Persons (IDPS) return to their homes and farmlands, but he is not desperate to use all means to achieve this.
“He is working on legitimate strategies to implement programmes promised to the people of the state. Very soon, the results will manifest,” he said.
