Beware of Matawalle, Arewa youths caution Tinubu, laud CBN’s naira policy

Northern youths, under the umbrella of Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA), have lauded Federal Government’s naira redesign policy, saying it curtailed the activities of bandits.

The youths also cautioned outgoing Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, over recent statement about a purported study leave granted Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, by President Muhammadu Buhari.

They said: “We wish to call on Bola Tinubu to note that the North voted for him, when sounds of gunshots from bandits went silent as a result of the naira redesign policy introduced by the CBN.

“Insecurity was the reason why our people rejected the PDP. We saw a workable solution to our number one problem. If he (Tinubu) choses to rally people, like Matawalle, around him, we will sadly accept that he has failed before his inauguration and nothing good will be expected from his tenure.”

Recall that a section of Nigerians had accused the CBN Governor of flying the policy to foil the chances of Tinubu becoming president.

A statement by AYA Publicity Secretary, Aliyu Sani, yesterday, noted: “The attention of Arewa Youth Assembly has been drawn to a press statement attributed to Matawalle, wherein he was quoted as saying if the leave has been approved, as reported in the media, the President should cancel it, in the interest of peaceful transfer of power, accountability and good governance.”

He said: “We find it embarrassing that a sitting governor will allow himself to be swayed into believing and acting on a baseless rumour that Emefiele has been granted study leave, to flee the country before Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is sworn in.

“The Office of the President, through one of its spokespersons, Mallam Garba Shehu, has denied the existence of the imaginary study leave.

“Despite this official position by the Presidency, Matawalle decided to believe in lies released to the public. Instead of him to be afraid of his fate, when he leaves office, he is more concerned about the destiny of Emefiele, who is serving Nigerians diligently.

“All that Emefiele has done, with the blessings of the Commander-in-Chief, have been completely transparent and accountable. The records are there. The world is digital. Every naira, every kobo is accounted for.”
