Bill & Melinda Gates, Rotary, others collaborate on health
National Programme Coordinator, Rotarians for Family Health and Aids Prevention Inc. (RFHA) and past District Governor, Bola Oyebade, have called on Nigerians to take their health status seriously, especially during this period of economic downturn in the nation. He made the call, yesterday, at a press conference to flag off Rotary Family Health Days. organised by RFHA, which will end on October 26.
The event took place at the Rotary Centre, GRA, Ikeja.
“This is a national programme put together in collaboration with Bill & Melinda Gates and other partners to help Nigerians know their health status to know what to do at the right time before it is too late.
“This programme that is gulping not less than $240,000.00 is to enable Nigerians to undergo, free of charge, screening and get first aid treatment in areas such as polio immunisation, malaria, HIV testing and counselling, hepatitis B&C, among various others,” he said.
Senior Gender Specialist, RFHA, from South Africa, Edith Makandi, who gave a talk at the event, underscored the importance of gender equality such as ensuring that everybody had equal access to health facilities with every barrier in the health sector removed.
Pioneer District Governors, Rotary International Districts 9111 and 9112, Dr Wole Kukoyi, and Femi Adenekan, implored Nigerians to make the best use of the free medical programme organised for them all over the country.
