The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, AIG Dankombo F. Morris, to Plateau State on an operational assessment visit following recent attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area of the state.
The deployment was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu.
According to the statement, AIG Morris visited Kawel Community in Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, where he met with community leaders, traditional rulers and other key stakeholders to assess the prevailing security situation and reinforce ongoing efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the affected communities.
During the visit, the AIG conveyed the condolences of the Inspector-General of Police and the Force Management Team to families and residents affected by the attacks.
He expressed sympathy for the victims and assured the communities of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the violence are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
Morris stated that all lawful measures were being deployed to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks, stressing that the Force remains determined to safeguard lives and property across the state.
He further revealed that, on the directive of the IGP, additional security assets had been deployed to Plateau State, particularly to communities affected by the attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area. The reinforcement, he said, is intended to strengthen ongoing security operations, improve police presence and support efforts to restore normalcy in the troubled areas.
The AIG also appealed to residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding, urging them to avoid reprisal actions that could escalate tensions and undermine ongoing peace-building and security initiatives.
As part of his engagement in the state, Morris paid courtesy visits to Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, and the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Royal Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, CFR. During the meetings, he conveyed the condolences of the police leadership and reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to sustained collaboration with the state government and other stakeholders in tackling security challenges across Plateau.
The statement noted that the Force remains committed to working closely with relevant stakeholders and sister security agencies to protect lives and property, maintain public safety and support lasting peace in Plateau State and across the country.
