Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District has said that 42 pupils and students were kidnapped, after Boko Haram insurgents attacked the Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Mussa in Askira/Uba Local Council of Borno state.
According to him the Mussa farming and hersing community is located on the eastern fringe of Sambisa Forest in the Northeast.
Confirming the abduction of the over three dozen school children on Saturday in Maiduguri, the state capital, Ndume said: “I am appealing to the military and other security agencies, particularly the ground troops of the Northeast Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) to intensify their efforts in rescuing the abducted school children in captivity.
He said the traumatizing abduction incident has forced many parents and guardians into hopelessness, traumas and disheartening to the families.
Ndume’s senatorial constituency comprising nine local councils continue to remain under constant attacks with the destruction of lives and property in the recent times, particularly with Thursday’s attacks on some Chibok communities of Bambatsu and Ngadarma, where several people, including the elderly were killed.
He added that the abduction of pupils in the Mussa school is more terrifying, because the incident occured at a time when the poor and resilient students were engaged in their early morning classroom lessons.
He further revealed that the information at his disposal, which he got from the school’s authorities, indicated that four students were abducted from the Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), 28 pupils were abducted from the primary section, while 10 children were abducted from their various residential houses, bringing a total of 42 victims.
Ndume, an ex-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, reiterated his appeal to the security agencies, especially the Nigerian Army to intensify it’s efforts in rescuing the innocent school children
He also condoles with the families of those who lost their lives in Chibok communities and other attacks in the South Senatorial District of the state
