The Borno State Police Command has confirmed that suspected Boko Haram terrorists killed a resident and rustled about 1,400 sheep during an attack on a community in Borno State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at Wuturo, a nomadic settlement in Konduga Local Government Area, located along the 75-kilometre Maiduguri–Bama road.
The state Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, condemned the attack, describing it as heinous, and extended condolences to the family of the deceased.
He also assured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Maiduguri, the state capital.
Daso said the attack was allegedly carried out by suspected terrorists from Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
According to him, the command received a report from the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Konduga at about 10:30 p.m. on March 10, 2026, stating that armed men riding five motorcycles invaded the settlement and rustled livestock.
“Unknown gunmen riding on five motorcycles invaded the settlement and rustled about 1,400 sheep belonging to the community’s herdsmen,” he said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ahmadu Baida, 40, sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the attack, while Mohammadu Baida, 30, suffered a gunshot injury to his left leg.
Daso said the victims were evacuated to a hospital, where Ahmadu Baida was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor, while the injured victim is currently receiving treatment and responding positively.
He added that a combined team of security personnel—including the police, military, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters—was immediately mobilised to the scene, led by the Divisional Police Officer in Konduga.
The police spokesperson said the command has activated coordinated operational strategies with other security agencies and community stakeholders to track down the perpetrators, prevent further attacks and recover the rustled livestock.
