Borno Assembly passes N358.7 billion budget of consolidation, progress

Borno State House of Assembly has passed N358.7 billion budget for the 2024 fiscal year. The 28-member Assembly, however, increased the budget by N18.1 billion over the presented Appropriation Bill of N340.6 billion by Governor Babagana Zulum on December 13, 2023.

Titled the budget of ‘Consolidation and Progress’, it was passed at the plenary session presided over by Speaker of the House, Abdulkarim Lawan, following presentation of budget report to the House Committee Chairman on Appropriation, Bukar Alibe (APC-Kaga).

Thereafter, the House consequently went into Committee of the whole house to consider the budget report. The leader of the House, Dige Mohammed (APC- Kala/Balge), moved a motion for the adoption of the report and was seconded by Baba Mala (APC-Bama).

Lawan, therefore, after the passage, directed the clerk of the house to prepare clean copies of the Budget for the Governor’s assent into law in January 2024.

The House also approved the request by the governor to appoint 29 special advisers with the establishments of the Borno State Great Green Wall (BSGG) and State Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA).

IN a related development, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has approved the appointments of 29 special advisers into his administration.

According to him, the appointments of the special advisers were based on merit and their respective wealth of experiences in various fields. The appointments were disclosed in a statement released, yesterday (Friday), in Maiduguri, by Prof. Usman Tar, the Commissioner of Information and Internal Security.

He directed the over two dozen appointees to proceed to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Tijjani Bukar to collect their letters of appointment.
