Borno State government yesterday, faulted claims by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Power that the electricity cut off from the state, two months ago by suspected Boko Haram insurgents, had since been restored.

Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Zannah Mustapha faulted the power restoration claim while receiving the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji

Abubakar Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, on behalf of Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno on Saturday, at he Government house in Maiduguri.

He said the claim by the Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Power, Mr Godsknow Igali that electricity had since been restored to Borno was untrue, maintaining that the Federal Ministry of Power did not cross-check its fact properly before going to the press.

“It is either the Permanent Secretary of Power in Abuja is still living in the past or did not cross-check his facts well. The truth is that electricity has not been restored to the state. The situation is still as it were since two months ago when it was cut off by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.”

He however noted that the Borno state government was aware of efforts made by the electricity company to restore power to the state, but insisted that; “there is no electricity yet in the state.”

He also lauded President Mohammadu Buhari for the air of change brought into governance in the country so far.

He commended the President for involving Borno governor on international talks and commitments aimed at addressing Boko Haram insurgency in the North East; especially trips to Chad, Niger and presently the U.S.

Such developments, according to him, demonstrated Buhari’s commitments to tackle the problem with leaders of affected areas.

He therefore; assured the monarch that the State Government would deploy much agricultural equipment purchased for improved agriculture and employment purposes as soon as the insurgency is tackled and displaced persons return to their communities.

He also said government was determined to collaborate with the federal authorities to end Boko Haram insurgency, not only in state, but entire North East sub-region of the nation.
