Borno killings, evidence of lost battle to terrorists – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the recent bomb blasts in Maiduguri, Borno State, as further proof of what it termed the Federal Government’s failure to tackle insecurity under PresidentbBola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party said the multiple explosions, which reportedly claimed no fewer than 23 lives and left over 100 persons injured, underscored what it called the worsening security situation across the country.

The statement, signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration for what it described as an inability to curb the persistent wave of violence, particularly in the North-East.

According to the PDP, the latest incident adds to a series of security breaches recorded over the years, despite assurances made by the APC prior to coming into power that it would decisively address insecurity.

The opposition party further alleged that the current administration has prioritised political interests over national security, accusing it of focusing on weakening opposition voices rather than confronting the threats posed by insurgency and other forms of violence.

It also argued that insecurity, which was once largely confined to parts of the North-East, has now spread to other regions of the country, affecting areas previously considered relatively peaceful.

The PDP expressed sympathy to families of victims of the Maiduguri attacks and condemned the incident in strong terms, describing it as “dastardly.”

The party, however, urged the Federal Government to go beyond what it termed “rhetoric” by adopting a more inclusive and strategic approach to security.

It called for the engagement of critical stakeholders, particularly community leaders, as part of a comprehensive, whole-of-society response to the security challenges facing the nation.
