Breast cancer survivor among top 10 finalists in FabOver40 contest

Nigeria’s breast cancer survivor, Juliet Uzoma, is among the 10 finalists in the 2023 FabOver40 Competition.

The inspiring journey of the 16-year cancer survivor, marked by unwavering determination and indomitable spirit, has captured hearts and underscored the profound impact survivors can have in the realm of breast cancer advocacy.

In collaboration with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, she encouraged fellow Nigerians to champion breast cancer awareness throughout the year.

She noted breast cancer as a pressing concern in the country, constituting a staggering 22.7 per cent of all new cancer cases among women.

Beyond October, traditionally recognised as Breast Cancer Awareness month, Uzoma urged continuous advocacy to reduce this dangerous number and foster a culture of early detection and support.

As the beautiful survivor remains in the spotlight, her journey becomes a powerful catalyst for change, encouraging a collective commitment to combating breast cancer beyond the confines of a calendar month.

Moving into the final rounds of the FabOver40 competition, she says: “As a survivor, speaker, and advocate, my goal is to increase active participation in breast cancer discussions that propel corporations, individuals and governments to get involved in the fight against the disease.”

She urged Nigerians to support her to get to the finish line through voting, and promised to support projects around education in local languages, access to mammograms and social campaigns to keep the conversation at the front burner.
