Buhari a resolute leader, statesman, disciplined patriot, says ACCI

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has expressed deep sadness at the news of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari passed away in a London hospital on Sunday at the age of 82.

“We join the entire nation in mourning a resolute leader, statesman, and disciplined patriot whose unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s unity and development will remain indelibly etched in our national history,” President of ACCI, Chief Emeka Obegolu, said in a statement on Tuesday.

Obegolu recalled that during his tenure, former President Buhari demonstrated an uncommon commitment to fostering public-private sector collaboration and institutional strengthening.

“His administration consistently engaged with the chamber and the organised private sector, integrating our recommendations into national policies and reforms aimed at boosting economic growth,” he said.

Obegolu also recalled the late Buhari’s pivotal role in the commissioning of the ACCI Business and Exhibition Complex, which marked a significant milestone in the history of Nigeria’s chamber movement. He described it as a testament to his dedication to creating enabling environments that foster business growth and success.

“We also remember his administration’s social investment initiatives, such as the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Program (GEEP), N-Power, and others, which significantly supported Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), created jobs, and reduced poverty.

“The ACCI, in solidarity with the nation, has lowered our flags in mourning and reflection on his invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s progress.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, his close associates, and all Nigerians as we pray for the repose of his soul. May his legacy of discipline, integrity, and service to the nation continue to guide us all,” he said.
