Buhari appoints Degereji as Yola FCE Provost

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally appointed Dr. Mohammed Degereji as the Provost, Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola, Adamawa State.

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally appointed Dr. Mohammed Degereji as the Provost, Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola, Adamawa State.

The Principal Information Officer of the institution, Mr. Bashiru Abdullahi, stated, yesterday, in Yola, that the appointment took effect from June 2022 and for a period of four years.

The two-page statement reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. Mohammed Usman Degereji as the new Provost of the Federal College of Education, Yola.”

According to the statement, Degereji has diligently served the institution in key strategic positions, including Acting Deputy Provost, Dean of School of Science Education, Director and Head of Department.

“Degereji, a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Physics, displayed his versatility as a leader by successfully serving as the pioneer Director of the College Centre of Excellence as well as the Science Research Centre of the institution.

“Until his appointment, he served as the Coordinator of the World Bank/Adamawa State-assisted programme for the provision of education for Out-of-School Children under the auspices of Better Education Service Delivery for All,” the statement added.

The new provost bagged a Bachelor of Science (Physics) from the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and Masters in Engineering and Electrical Power System from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi.

He holds a Doctorate from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, with specialisation in Energy Physics.

However, the date for handover was not disclosed, as the acting provost, Johnson Malgwa, told The Guardian that handing over is an internal administrative procedure.behind an agency that will continue to strive for excellence in service delivery to Nigerians because “Road Safety Management has become a priority on the agenda of the current administration following through sustainability of efforts of past governments in the country as far back as the pre-1988 period when Nigeria’s road safety profile was unpleasant because of road carnage and absence of a coordinated system on road safety. We resolved to alter the narrative for the better.”

Highlighting some of his achievement to include the implementation of the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy (NRSS I&II) with coordinating organ, expansion of infrastructure including model office buildings and facilities at the FRSC training institutions, securing intervention funds for the FRSC to establishment the National Traffic Radio and the establishment of the Operations Monitoring and Control platform with the aid of innovative technology (body camera) towards elevating traffic enforcement and coordination among others.

Oyeyemi makes history as the first Corp Marshal in the FRSC to rise through the ranks and become the helmsman.
