“My war against corruption would be sustained,” President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed. Stating that the menace remains an existential threat to nations, the Nigerian leader, who played host to management of Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), led by chairman, Danladi Yakubu Umar, at the State House, Abuja, described the organisation as “an important tool in our fight against corruption over the last seven years.”

He added that such frontline agencies, “which are in the trenches, are relied upon to demonstrate that government means what it says and remains committed against corruption in all forms.”

The President expressed his desire for a sustained anti-graft war, stating: “It is our hope that the foundation, which has been laid by this administration, will be carried forward, as issue of corruption remains an existential threat to all nations.”

He recognised the sacrifices being made by the tribunal and similar agencies “in the midst of very challenging economic and revenue shortages,” pledging innovative and new models of financing critical agencies.

In his remarks, Umar commended the current administration for improving infrastructure, agriculture and social services. He noted that the tribunal was being hampered by funding challenge and poor staffing, urging immediate presidential intervention.
