Buhari sends Atiku to Zuma to lobby for Adesina for AfDB presidency

A statement issued by Malam Garba Shehu in Abuja on Saturday said Atiku's shuttle diplomacy to drum support for the Nigerian candidate followed a mandate from the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, has commenced lobbying for the candidacy of the Minister of Agriculture, Dr Akinwumi Adesina as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

A statement issued by Malam Garba Shehu in Abuja on Saturday said Atiku’s shuttle diplomacy to drum support for the Nigerian candidate followed a mandate from the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the statement, Buhari asked Atiku to leverage on his contacts to lobby for the emergence of Adesina.

Buhari, who backs the candidacy of Adesina, had last month conveyed his support to the President of Ghana, John Mahama, when the two leaders met in Abuja.

The statement stated that Atiku travelled with Adesina to South Africa over the weekend where the two met with President Jacob Zuma at the Presidential Residence in Durban.

“His Excellency former Vice President Atiku Abubakar met President Zuma in the company of Dr Akinwumi Adesina during which the directive of Buhari was conveyed to Zuma.

“The issue of South Africa and the Southern African region’s support for Nigeria’s candidate was exhaustively discussed and well appreciated”, the statement read in part.

That is one of the many good things in GMB, a great and patriotic statesman. He puts the nation first all the times. He is supporting Dr. Adesina simply for his competence and what Nigeria stands to benefit from his appointment as the President of ADB.

    President-elect Buhari
Congratulations on your victory!. We celebrated here in New York City when you were declared the winner!!

You will be wise indeed to seek advice whenever you feel the need. Someone like former Vice President Atiku and even the man your defeated-President Jonathan have a wealth of valued experience in international affairs that you will need; at least initially. But PLEASE keep Obasanjo and his cronies and at an arm’s length. He is a snake in the grass and likes rule by proxy. He is insatiable in his cravings for power and attention. Everything has to revolve around him.
Be wise to smell a RAT at a distance.
    Good luck

This is the problem with APC. Former discredited PDP members have serious influence with other top APC leaders having possible drug dealing legacy. Buhari can do little if questionable people put him in power. He has to reward them otherwise they will bring him down the same way they helped him up!
