Barely two months after he named chairman and board members of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended their inauguration.

He had named Senator Ifeanyi Ararume as board chairman with Mele Kolo Kyari and Umar Ajiya as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer.

But a statement issued yesterday by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, said the President “directed the immediate suspension of the inauguration of the newly constituted board of the NNPC scheduled for Wednesday, November 24, 2021 until further notice.” A new date is to be announced in due course.
