Buni bags NUJ award of excellence in Yobe
Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has clinched the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)’s award of excellence, in recognition of his support for media practitioners in the state.
While receiving the award, yesterday, at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Damaturu, the governor described the award as the first of its kind.
He, therefore, urged the journalists to improve on reportage of the completed and ongoing projects in the 17 local councils.
“The media promotes democracy and good governance to meet people’s yearnings and aspirations,” he said, noting that democracy cannot work without the media ensuring transparency and accountability to the people.
“The media is a mechanism of various feedbacks on the implementation and sustenance of government projects and programmes.”
Buni called on journalists to keep the electorate informed about the delivery of democracy dividends.
According to him, the dividends of democracy in the various sectors of the economy should have a positive impact on people’s lives.
To ensure civil service performance, he said: “We’ll continue to train and retrain the workers to achieve optimal performance in service delivery to the people.”
He urged journalists to adhere to the ethics of their profession by disseminating credible information to the public, as he would continue to ensure a conducive working environment for them.
The governor also extended the transmission time for the Yobe State Broadcasting Corporation (YBC) from 8.00pm to 10pm.
The Commissioner of Information, represented by the Director of Information Services, Mrs. Husna Ibrahim, assured the governor that the ministry would bridge the gap between the state government and the people.
