The Emeritus Supreme Head of the Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, Prophet Solomon Adegboyega Alao, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decisive leadership in reorganising the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
In a statement following the appointment of Tunji Disu as the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alao, who is also the Baba Alakoso of the Sacred C&S Church, described the decision as a major step towards addressing Nigeria’s deep-seated security challenges.
He, therefore, urged the new police chief to seize this moment to “write his name in gold” by dismantling the long-standing culture of corruption and systemic failure within the Force.
The renowned cleric expressed confidence in Disu’s capacity to bring about reforms but warned that the public is watching closely.
He specifically highlighted the rampant extortion of motorists on major highways as a critical area for immediate action.
Alao noted with concern that vital traffic laws, especially those governing articulated and commercial vehicles, had been largely ignored due to bribery. This negligence, he said, had led to countless avoidable accidents and the tragic loss of lives.
“I am eager to see roadblocks dismantled and the extortion of motorists becoming a thing of the past. Because of the capacity of the new IGP, Nigerians expect this regime to usher in a new phase where ‘bail is free’ becomes a reality, not just a slogan,” the religious leader stated.
Beyond corruption, Alao tasked the IGP to intensify the fight against Boko Haram, banditry, and kidnapping, which continue to threaten the nation’s corporate existence. He also called for strict enforcement of safety regulations for heavy-duty vehicles, insisting that containers must be properly fastened to prevent them from falling and killing innocent road users.
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Alao emphasised the need for a neutral and apolitical police force.
He, however, cautioned against the perceived trend of officers “dancing to the tunes of politicians” and urged the new IGP to ensure the Force is not used to manipulate the 2027 elections, adding that the new IGP must obey all court judgments at all tiers of government.
He said that for the upcoming polls to be credible, the police must maintain total professionalism and neutrality.
The clergy called on both Christians and Muslims to utilise the ongoing Lenten and Ramadan seasons to pray for national peace and for both faith to appreciate that religion is a personal matter.
He also urged the faithful to pray against the looming threat of another World War, seeking divine intervention for global stability.
