In a landmark achievement for grassroots innovation, impact, and leadership, CAIN (Catering to Africans In Need) Educational Foundation has been awarded the Governor’s Award for Social Impact at the esteemed Lagos Leadership Summit.
The event, organised by the Lateef Jakande Academy and hosted by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, celebrates excellence in leadership and community development.
Selected from a competitive pool of over 2,000 social impact organisations, CAIN Africa emerged as one of only five recipients, representing an exceptional success rate of just 0.25%. The award includes a ₦5 million cash prize and stands as a powerful endorsement of CAIN’s transformative work across underserved communities.
The accolade was presented before an illustrious gathering of Nigeria’s most prominent leaders and visionaries, including His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri; Her Majesty Olori Atuwatse III; Dr. Owen Omogiafo, CEO of Transcorp Group; Babatunde Raji Fashola, former Governor of Lagos State and Minister of Works; and Shaffy Bello, renowned actress and thought leader.
This recognition marks a significant milestone in CAIN’s journey to dismantle barriers to opportunity. Since its founding, CAINAfrica has empowered over 14,000 individuals across seven African communities through a community-centered model that addresses pressing issues such as: Limited access to quality education, the widening digital divide, Youth unemployment and skill mismatch, Food insecurity and systemic poverty.
“Receiving this award is more than a moment of recognition—it’s a powerful reminder that purpose, passion, and persistence can change lives,” said May Oghenerukeme Asagba, Founder and CEO of CAIN Educational Foundation. “We are deeply honoured and energised to continue scaling our work, equipping Africa’s next generation with the tools they need to thrive.”
As CAIN looks ahead, this award not only affirms the impact of its mission, it also opens doors to new partnerships and deeper collaboration. With renewed momentum, CAIN remains steadfast in its vision: a continent where every child, regardless of background, has access to quality education and the opportunity to rise above poverty.
