Police confirm 14 deaths as gov urges calm
Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the deadly attack on residents of Angwan Rukuba, Gari Ya Waye area of Jos North, Plateau State, by armed men on Palm Sunday, which left many people dead.

In a statement yesterday in Abuja, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, lamented that armed men, in their numbers and wearing security uniforms, reportedly moved into a civilian community and opened fire on defenceless and innocent residents.

He observed that Palm Sunday, which is meant to be a day of peace, hope, and reflection, became a day of bloodshed, adding that innocent Nigerians: men, women and children were hunted and killed in cold blood.

Okoh said, “This is not just tragic; it is unacceptable. We mourn, we grieve, but we must also speak the truth. How did we get here? How is it that people can no longer feel safe in their own homes? How is it that, even on a sacred day, communities are left exposed to such terror?”

TheBandits kill 13, kidnap several others in Kaduna, who observed that a nation cannot keep bleeding like this and expect to move forward, stated: “We owe the dead justice. We owe the living protection. And we owe our future a country where no community wakes up to gunfire on a sacred day.”

Okoh asserted that Nigerians are tired of mourning and reading statements and want to see action.

He said the perpetrators must be fished out, arrested and made to face justice swiftly and decisively.

WHILE no fewer than 24 people were said to have been killed in the Sunday night attack, the Plateau State Police Command, on its part, confirmed 14 casualties.

A statement yesterday by the command’s spokesman, SP Alfred Alabo, said that the Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, had visited the incident scene, where he commiserated with the people.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang also visited the scene, appealing to the residents for peace and calm, as the government handles the situation with a view to bringing the culprits to book.
