Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni

The governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has offered additional support to the Yetim Care Foundation Orphanage, where orphaned students receive education and training.

Speaking during a visit to the orphanage in Damaturu yesterday, the governor said children who are orphans deserve special care and attention to help them grow into responsible members of the society.

The governor announced that the monthly running expense of N500,000 that the state government provides to the orphanage has been jerked up to a million naira monthly.

He added that the government, as requested by the coordinator of the orphanage Mallam Gambo Garba, would build an additional student hostel and classroom to make more room for the students to live and learn at the orphanage.

“Orphans are our children who we must train and to whom we should provide a sense of belonging. It is a collective responsibility”, the governor said, adding that as human beings, “we will all one day answer the call of our Lord by returning to Him and that it is important we regularly engage in acts of charity and generosity as sadaqatul jariya (charity whose reward endures well after one has died).

“At some point, we will all return to the great beyond. How and when are totally in the hands of God, but catering to the needs of the orphans will be sadaqatul jariya for us,” he said.

Coordinator of the foundation, Mallam Gambo Garba, thanked the governor for his personal support to the orphanage, saying the gesture has enabled the children “to celebrate Sallah happily”.
