Catholic fathers task govt on moral decadence

The Archbishop, Metropolitan See of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins

Members of the Catholic Confraternity of Christian Fathers (CCCF), Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, have sought urgent tackling of the moral decadence in the society.

They made the call at their 2023 triennial convention with the theme, “The increase of moral decadence in contemporary families – The role of Christian Fathers.’

The group also pleaded with the Federal Government to promote only value-added policies that enhance quality of lives of citizens.
In a resolution reached at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Ikeja, Lagos, the confraternity deplored attempts by foreign influences to redefine African values, particularly the concept of marriage in the name of unbridled freedom and human rights, adding that these have had negative consequences on the youths.

In his address, Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev Alfred Adewale Martins, who was represented by the Vicar of Ikeja Region, Very Rev Fr Anthony Taiye Fadairo, noted that “we live in a time when the moral fabric of society is unraveling.” He, therefore, urged members of the confraternity to strive as beacons of light.

Guest Speaker and Associate Administrator at Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos, Rev Fr Raymond Emedo, encouraged parents to spend quality time with their children and share with them the word of God to mould their moral lives.

He equally challenged men to live exemplary lives and protect their families against negative ideologies. Earlier, CCCF President, Lawrence Ojemen, charged fathers to set a moral compass for their children.
