A chairmanship aspirant of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Mustapha Saliu, has canvassed support for the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led caretaker committee of the party.

Saliu, who spoke during an interactive session with reporters in Abuja, urged aggrieved APC chieftains to give the committee a chance to live up to expectations of the party.

The Kwara-born politician spoke against the backdrop of the emergence of a factional caretaker committee, led by Prince Mustapha Audu, urging party stalwarts to sheathe their swords.

He said: “These are internal issues of my party. We have our party mechanism on how some of these things will be addressed and I think the party constitution is very clear.”

“The caretaker committee is an Extraordinary Convention Caretaker Committee. We must not forget; the work is still in progress. They are not there to remain there forever. They are doing their work. So, we must support them and see that we bring things to a successful ending.”

Calling for the cessation of finger pointing, Saliu said: “It is not time for us to say this person is right or this person is wrong. It was because something went wrong, that was why they came on board. So, it is not time to start pushing blame again. What we should do is look for solutions, so that we bring this thing to a successful end where we will come out with a very successful convention.”

He promised to administer the APC based on equity and fairness if he is elected during the February 2022 national convention.

He said: “I’m bringing goodwill, experience, youthfulness, not with exuberance, but with experience. First and foremost, I want to see a party that promotes equity, fairness and justice. It is when you have a party of that sort that you are able to allow popular candidates to emerge.”

MEANWHILE, the newly elected Zamfara State APC Chairman, Alhaji Tukur Umar Danfulani, has promised to unite party members and ensure APC wins the state in the 2023 general elections.

In a statement signed by the spokesman of the party, Yusuf Idris Gusau, the chairman said the new leadership will work hard and ensure the success of the party. He also noted that the APC-led state government will continue to accord top priority to youths and women in Zamfara.

While receiving the handover note at the party’s secretariat in Gusau, Danfulani commended the outgoing leadership for its selfless service and for uniting the party.

Earlier, Senator Hassan Muhammad Nasiha, who served as Caretaker Chairman, expressed gratitude at conclusion of the party’s congresses in the state, which he described as peaceful. He also urged the new leadership to continue to unite members and ensure progress.
