…….Orders Explosive Ordinance Disposal personnel affected areas
Following the hospitalization of about 15 students for inhaling a foul-smelling chemical irritant, the Commissioner of Police for the Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, yesterday visited affected schools and communities in Ijebu-Ode to assess the extent of the impact.
The Commissioner also ordered additional deployment of Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel, Surveillance Teams, tactical operatives, and the School Protection Squad to strengthen security coverage, support emergency operations and ensure Public safety around affected schools and communities.
The affected schools includes:Our Ladies Grammar School, Epe Garage; Anglican Girls Grammar School, Obalende; Titilayo Agbaje Comprehensive High School, Imosan; Ifesowapo Comprehensive High School, Imosan; St. Peter’s Anglican Primary School, Imosan; and Orphanage Primary School, Imosan.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi who confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta yesterday, said that the situation has since been brought under control, while monitoring and technical assessments continues.
Babaseyi said that the CP paid a visit to the affected areas in company of the Ogun State Commissioners for Education, Environment, and Health, during which residents, teachers, parents, students, and community stakeholders were sensitized on precautionary safety measures and emergency response procedures.
He said that the assessment was carried out alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Muritala Bolanle, the Officer in Charge of (EOD) Unit, and other emergency response stakeholders as the CP addressed the people on calmness, vigilance and strict adherence to established emergency protocols.
However, the CP urged members of the public to contact the Ogun State Government Emergency Call Centre on 08112000033 incase of any emergency and advised residents to immediately call for help, assist affected persons to breathe using wet clothes where necessary, and promptly convey victims to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
