Notable election observation Group, Nouvelle Perspective has been accredited by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) alongside 97 other organizations to observe the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti State.
The group made the list of accredited observers published on the website of the electoral body, a development that officially clears it to participate in monitoring the governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026.
The accreditation is expected to enable the organisation deploy observers across various parts of the state to monitor compliance with electoral guidelines, voting procedures, collation processes, and the overall conduct of the poll.
The Guardian reports that Nouvelle Perspective was accredited alongside AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria as the only two foreign observer groups approved for the election, while the remaining 96 organisations are local observers. Some of the accredited domestic groups include Yiaga Africa, CLEEN Foundation, Nigerian Bar Association, Nigerian Women Trust Fund, and Centre for Democracy and Development West Africa.
Analysts say the presence of both local and international observers is crucial in promoting transparency, strengthening public confidence in the electoral process, and ensuring that the election reflects the will of the people.
Speaking on the development, the group’s Nigerian Coordinator, Jim Chimezie Okolo, revealed that members of Nouvelle Perspective are expected to participate in the sensitisation workshops being organised by INEC ahead of the election.
According to him, the organisation has consistently contributed to efforts aimed at strengthening democracy, electoral integrity, and civic participation across Africa and other parts of the world through observation missions, advocacy, and policy engagement.
He added that Nouvelle Perspective also participated in the high-profile 2024 United States presidential election that produced Donald Trump, noting that the experience further enhanced the organisation’s expertise in election monitoring and democratic governance.
“We also observed the Namibia’s election last year which produced Gideon Boko as the winner. Nouvelle Perspective also has observed off-season elections in Nigeria in recent times, including Rivers State local government election as well as Senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly elections. We also observed the Anambra governorship election that produced Chukwuma Soludo as governor for a second term,” he said.
