Chevron trains Delta journalists, seeks informed reporting
Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) has challenged journalists to set agendas and mould opinions that would lead to positive national transformation and development.
The General Manager of policy, Government and Public Affairs, of the oil giant, Olusoga Oduselu, said this during a capacity-building programme for journalists in Warri, Delta State, in partnership with the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The training featured three lectures on ‘Environmental Degradation in the Niger Delta: Responsibilities of the Mass Media,’ by the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh; ‘Repositioning the Media for Effective and Efficient Reportage of IOCs and Host Communities,’ by Prof. Majority Oji, the Head of Department of Mass Communication, Delta State University, Abraka; and ‘Host Communities: Social Responsibilities of Mass Media in the Post GMOU Era,’ by Dr (Mrs) F. O. Atubi, Delta State University.
Oduselu said that the training was the second segment of the media capacity building programme implemented in collaboration with NUJ Warri Chapel in Delta State, adding that 30 journalists were trained in the first segment last year in Asaba.
He said: “As members of the fourth estate of the realm, your role as agenda-setters and opinion moulders cannot be over-emphasised.
“I want to thank you for your impactful role in reporting the oil and gas industry, providing effective perspectives to the complex industry operations.
“We would continue to partner the media for the development of the society.
