Family of the Publisher of Desert Herald and former chief negotiator between the Federal Government and bandits, Tukur Mamu, has called on the government to release him from custody over deteriorating health conditions.
The children pleaded for administrative bail on the publisher’s behalf, to enable him attend to his deteriorating health, which involves a surgery.
According to them, it was because of his health challenge, which needed urgent attention that initially made him fly to Cairo before he was arrested and brought back to Nigeria.
The concern over Mamu’s health was expressed in a statement, yesterday, signed by his children, Faisal, Zainab, Usama, Nazir, Kashim and Marwan. The statement entitled ‘A Passionate Appeal For Mercy’, the family noted that the appeal became necessary in view of the man’s deteriorating state of health.
“On behalf of the family of Tukur Mamu, we, the children, call on President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu and President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio to wade into the continuous detention of our father and help ensure his bail, in the name of God and humanity”.
“We are not seeking the discontinuation of our father’s trial, but we are passionately pleading for administrative bail for our father, so that he will urgently do the much needed surgery,” the statement stressed.
The family explained “Mamu has a well documented history of respiratory ailments which forced him to travel to Egypt for medical treatment several times before his arrest and incarceration.”
It added: “Finally, we the children of Tukur Mamu wish to tender unreserved apologies to anyone our father may have offended in the discharge of his duties as a media practitioner. We also apologise for any article considered offensive and psychological trauma that our father’s newspaper may have caused anyone. We are using this medium to appeal for forgiveness.”
