Conference of Church Leaders and Ministers Fellowship of Nigeria (CCLMFN) is demanding a review in public holidays in Nigeria to conform to practices in other climes of the world.

The CCLMFN, an arm of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), during a press briefing in Ilorin, marking its 20th annual conference, said too many public holidays in Nigeria apart from its economic implications would portray Nigerians as people of limited knowledge on the faith they profess.

According to the Chairman of the fellowship, Rev. Emmanuel Adeosun: “As Christians, we will not encourage more holidays for our members because we profess that Christians must work and in fact we are created to work. What happened during the last Eid el Fitir in our country calls for a serious review.

“Our Muslim brothers and sisters have no blame at all on this because, it is the responsibility of the government to fix the holidays. However, one is wondering why it was only in Nigeria that there was an elongated holiday during the event we believe was a global thing? We need to know that Nigeria is a religious state but not ruled by religion.”

The CLMFN is an interdenominational body with membership cutting across church leaders, ministers, elders, church administrators who formed a united and strong body in service of God and humanity.

This year’s conference slated for 11th-15th July, has as its theme, ‘Ancient Landmark.’
