CIBN flags off construction of 160-seater lecture hall in Babcock
The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has flagged off a 160-seater lecture theatre hall to serve as a hub for the training and growth of aspiring bankers at Babcock University.
The lecture theatre, tagged “THE CIBN BANKERS HALL,” will serve as a center for learning, innovation, and excellence for both students and faculty.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony at Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, yesterday, the President and Chairman of the Council, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Prof. Pius Olanrewaju, disclosed that since the inception of the CIBN Linkage Programme in 1998—aimed at strengthening banking and finance education in Nigerian tertiary institutions—nine successful Legacy Projects have been implemented nationwide.
He noted that Babcock University holds a special place in this history as the first private institution in Nigeria to join the programme.
He stated that with its unwavering commitment to professionalism across all fields of study, the university has excelled in preparing its students for careers as Chartered Bankers even before graduation while also ensuring they are professionally and academically equipped for the challenges of the banking and finance industry.
He added that the collaboration between Babcock University and CIBN serves as a testament to their shared vision of fostering excellence and building a brighter future for the industry.
Prof. Olanrewaju noted that the legacy project being endowed to Babcock University by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria is a fully furnished 160-seater lecture theatre.
“This structure, to be officially named ‘THE CIBN BANKERS HALL,’ will serve as a hub for the training and growth of aspiring bankers. This enduring legacy project signifies our commitment to enhancing banking and finance education in Nigeria and reflects our steadfast backing for the overall economic progress of our nation,” he said.
“This project aligns with my LEGACY agenda as the 23rd President/Chairman of the Council, particularly the letter ‘C,’ which stands for Competence in the banking and finance industry to aid national development.”
The multi-million naira legacy project is expected to be completed within the next three months.
The Institute’s leadership pointed out that it strives to ensure equal access and opportunities for youth and women across geographical boundaries, creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued, regardless of their location or cultural background.
Also speaking at the occasion, the President and Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, Prof. Ademola Tayo, noted that the legacy project banking hall represents a beacon of excellence, fostering a culture of innovation and bridging the gap between academia and industry.
He explained that the project demonstrates the institution’s commitment to providing students with a world-class education, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to excel in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
